SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A former Salt Lake City teacher's aide convicted of sexually abusing an eight-year-old he tutored has been sentenced.

A judge has sentenced 29-year-old Bird Lockridge Young to one year in jail.

Young was convicted of attempted aggravated sex abuse of a child for inappropriately touching the girl over her clothing.

The man was an aide for a class of learning disabled children at Rosslyn Heights Elementary.

According to court records, the girl told police Young touched her on "more than one occasion" from January 2004 through December 2004.
