SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah's housing growth outpaced almost every other state in the nation.
That's according to a report released today by the U-S Census Bureau.
The report shows Nevada and Arizona are the only two states that grew faster than Utah from July 2003 and July 2004. Utah gained more than 21-thousand housing units during that year.
Robert Spendlove from the Governor's Office of Planning and Budget says the value of total permit-authorized construction in the state hit an all-time high of four-point-nine (B)billion dollars in 2004.
Washington County Economic Development Director Scott Hirschi cautioned that the current rate of growth has its negative side effects including less affordable housing for a growing work force.
According to the census bureau, Washington County was ranked 16th in the nation.
