(KSL News) Firefighters in southern Utah made a lot of progress today on several wildfires there.

Overnight rain and cooler temperatures slowed the flames, and helped give firefighters the upper hand.

The Dammeron Complex fire 12 miles north of St. George is now 70 percent contained and the Sunrise Complex fire, seven fires that burned into one about 10 miles north of that city, is 30 percent contained.

Firefighters believe they'll wrap things up by mid-week.

Tom Suwyn/ BLM Incident Cmdr.: "If we don't get any more moisture, we'll get around the fires we have, and we'll be able to leave. We're planning or projecting Wednesday or Thursday to be completed."

Fire is still burning in the towns of Gunlock and Veyo. Residents who were evacuated yesterday have been allowed back home.
