Sammy Linebaugh Reporting 33-hundred miles in eight weeks on a bicycle, that's the goal of two recent college grads who say they've never road biked in their lives, but they're not about to let that stop them -- they're riding for a pretty important cause.
Her name is Anessah. She's three-years old, loves animals and princesses, and she has a soft-tissue cancer.
Grant Knudson: "She's just a small little girl and you feel so bad because she has cancer and she comes to Salt Lake to do therapy and treatment."
Grant Knudson and James Carr are recent grads of Willamette University, not exactly sure what's next in life. Grant got his degree in chemistry. James double majored in history and Spanish.
James Carr: "I think we're still far too immature to settle down and get real jobs, so..."
So they decided they wanted to do something for somebody else.
Grant Knudson: "We'd done stuff with Make a Wish Foundation through Sigma Chi in college and we wanted to do a little more on our own."
Within weeks they were on the road, a little girl and a goal in mind. Her wish: a visit to Disneyland.
Three-year old Anessah is from Grant's hometown of Pocatello, Idaho. When he and James heard about her story and her wish, they knew they'd found their inspiration. The ride is raising money for the trip through t-shirt sales and web donations
Sure it's tough work, but you won't hear any complaints.
James Carr: "I'm just like, 'You know what, I'm really not going through anything compared to what she is."
And for a girl who loves fairytales, perhaps it's fitting that for her bravery, two princes are paying it forward. So far they've raised three-thousand dollars. They hope to finish their journey in New York City on September 13th. Anessah's Disneyland trip is scheduled for October.
