SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Gov. Gary Herbert has chosen Deputy Uintah County Attorney Edwin T. Peterson to fill a spot in 8th District Court.

The court serves Daggett, Duchesne and Uintah counties. Peterson's selection must be confirmed by the Utah Senate. He would replace Judge John Anderson, who is retiring on Sept. 1.

Peterson has bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Utah. He's been the deputy Uintah County attorney since 2001.

In a statement Thursday, Herbert said Peterson will serve the area well because he has been a local resident for several years.
