SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City fire authorities have arrested a man in connection with a July 23 apartment fire. Juan Derek Baez, 32, was jailed Monday.

Jail documents say Baez admitted to setting the fire at the Westgate apartment building near 300 South and 1500 West.

He admitted to using a cigarette lighter to ignite a sofa that he had pushed up against a door.

The early-morning fire forced several people, including a mother and her 3-year-old daughter to flee out a first-story window.

Investigators are not commenting on the motive, but earlier fire officials said they were looking for a man who'd been involved in an argument just before the fire.

Baez was booked into jail on aggravated arson charges. He also had a number of warrants.
