Officials Urge Caution When Sledding

Sliding down a hill on a sled for during your holiday break, is about as exciting as it gets for young children this time of year. But the thrill of speeding down a hill sometimes comes at a price.

Madison Bonnett: "I went up off that jump over there, and i went up and came back down and it really hurt my back."

Shannon Bonnett: "I think the biggest one probably is when they are in the saucers and they go off the jump and then go back down on the tailbone. That can really hurt."

Officials Urge Caution When Sledding

While sledding this time of year can be a lot of fun, it keeps doctors busy inside of the emergency room.

Dr. Cameron Symonds, Emergency Room Doctor: "Cuts on people's heads, to neck injuries, broken arms, broken legs, serious head injuries."

Doctors at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center got their first wave of sledding injuries in yesterday. But they say in most cases, common sense will keep you and your children out of the hospital.

Dr. Symonds: "Before going down the hill, make sure they are not going to hit anyone and also look for obstacles, they end up going too fast, landing into other objects, trees, rocks, fire hydrants or going into the street."

While most sledding injuries only end up in some tears, being careful can mean a more time on the hill, instead of the ER.
