WEST VALLEY CITY -- Charges are now filed against a West Valley man accused of punching his pregnant girlfriend in an attempt to make her miscarry.

Court documents say the man attacked the woman last week as she was getting dressed in the couple's home. He locked her in the bedroom, and then began punching her in the stomach, saying he was going to "get rid of" the baby.

He then tried to strangle the woman but released her when she began fighting back.

He now faces charges of aggravated assault, and domestic violence in the presence of a child -- due to the fact the couple's young son was home at the time.
