LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- A rancher blamed for a deadly crash between a driver and a cow has entered a plea.
Court documents say Darrell Kunzler pleaded no contest to reckless endangerment yesterday in a plea deal. In exchange, prosecutors will drop a felony manslaughter charge in two years if Kunzler maintains his fences and keeps his livestock off Cache County roads.
Authorities say 40-year-old Kimberly Johnson from Auburn, Washington died in 2004 when her vehicle crashed into a Black Angus cow on State Road 30, west of Logan. Two children, 14 and 10, survived. They were visiting family members during Thanksgiving.
Authorities say Kunzler has had a 30-year pattern of failing to contain his livestock.
He's set to be sentenced on February 5th. He faces up to a year in jail.
