BELGRADE, Serbia, Dec 1, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Girls will be allowed to enroll in Serbia's military schools for the first time next year, an army general said Friday.
Maj. Gen. Vidosav Kovacevic, the head of the Belgrade Military Academy, said girls could be cadets in the air force and motorized tank units, the Serbian news agency Tanjug reported.
Kovacevic pointed out the military needs educated personnel in the fields of finance, economy and information technology.
Wednesday, at a NATO summit in Riga, Latvia, Serbia along with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro were asked to join the Partnership for Peace cooperation program.
The three countries are the last Balkan countries of the former Yugoslavia to join NATO's partnership program.
