(KSL News) Vandals left U.S. Postal Inspectors with a big mess to clean up at a mail collection box in North Salt Lake.
Investigators say someone poured a corrosive chemical into the collection box. They're offering a ten thousand dollar reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of those responsible for the destruction of around one thousand pieces of mail.
Postal Inspector, Joe Schouten: "I think it's younger kids getting on the Internet, finding out things and pranks to do and don't realize the consequences."
Those consequences are hundreds of pieces of undeliverable mail, thousands of dollars in investigative costs, and a possible fine and a federal prison sentence for the suspect.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to call 801-887-1922.
