WEST VALLEY CITY -- The husband of murder victim Kimberly Hain spoke out publicly for the first time Thursday afternoon.
Patrick Hain made a brief but emotional statement inside the West Valley City Hall, but he declined to answer any questions and he made no mention of the suspect.
He first thanked his family for their support and the community for their well wishes. He said he could feel everyone's thoughts and prayers.
Patrick Hain also thanked the West Valley City Police Department for their hard work and timely arrest in his wife's senseless murder.
He then mentioned his two children, who are 6 and 8 years old. They found their mother's body and waited for their father to come home from work; he called police. He said his kids were doing pretty well. Then he said, "What can you expect?"
Patrick Hain choked up when he shared this message to his wife: "Kim, may your light shine down on us always. Protect us on our journeys. Smile on us often so we may see in the fog of our sorrow and direct us back to the light again."
After his statement, he declined to answer any questions.
His wife, Kimberly Hain, was beaten to death with a baseball bat. On Tuesday, police arrested the couple's next-door neighbor and friend, 18-year-old Martin Vuksinick.
Police say Vuksinick got inside the house through an unlocked door. They say the motive appears to be theft.
Just hours before his arrest, Vuksinick was seen coming out of Patrick Hain's house and shaking his hand.
His wife, Kimberly, was found dead in her bedroom Friday morning. Though her children found her, they waited until their father came home from an overnight shift at work, and he called 911. Kimberly had been beaten to death with a baseball bat.
Vuksinick is in the Salt Lake County Jail. Investigators will screen the case with prosecutors on Monday.
