(KSL News) A man shot while trying to stop a carjacking is back home today, and told Eyewitness News about his ordeal.
Friday morning, Jimmy Castro started his car and went inside while it warmed up. When he came back, someone was trying to steal the car.
He tried to stop the thief, but the thief shot him in the stomach.
Jimmy Castro/Victim: "I never thought it would happen here. This is a good neighborhood. I never thought it would happen. But I guess it could happen to anyone."
He says he had no idea what he was up against.
Jimmy Castro/Victim: "I didn't think he had a gun. That was the last thing in my.. I was just trying to stop him. When I saw the gun, whoo."
Police believe Michael Vasquez was the gunman, and other suspects helped with the getaway.
Officers caught the trail of the suspects after reports of a carjacking in Cache County involving a Jeep similar to Castro's.
A family member of one of the suspects told police they were in Nevada over the weekend, so officials believe they are heading west.
