Ashley Hayes Reporting A do-it-yourself project landed a Salt Lake man in the hospital with severe burns.
He was working on his car when a chemical burned him.
The man was working on his carburetor at 4400 South 900 East, and somehow the carburetor cleaner he was using splashed back on his face. He experienced second degree burns.
Paramedics told us the cleaner melted the man's beard and skin off his face, and he was complaining of breathing problems.
Medics put the 56 year-old on oxygen.
Your car probably doesn't even have a carburetor. More recent model cars-- pretty much anything made after the early '90's-- have fuel injectors.
With almost any project you can find a how-to on the internet, making anyone a do-it yourselfer.
