Teen charged as adult in fatal Ogden crash

OGDEN -- A 17-year-old boy has been charged as an adult for his role in a police chase that ended in a crash in Ogden that killed two young men.

Weber County prosecutors charged Mark Mora Wednesday with two counts of automobile homicide for the deaths of Blake Strebel, 19, and Derek Jasper, 18.

Mora was also charged with:

  • Failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop
  • Driving on a suspended license
  • No insurance
  • A license plate violation

According to charging documents investigators believe Mora was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. Mora was booked into the Weber County Jail Wednesday. On April 22, An Ogden police officer tried to pull over Mora and his passenger, Andrew Gomez, 21. The two were suspects in a home burglary earlier in the day.

Police say Mora took off, leading police on a brief chase that ended when Mora ran a stop light and T-boned Strebel and Japser at 28th Street and Washington Boulevard.

Both Strebel and Jasper were killed.

Mora was knocked unconscious. Gomez fled on foot, but officers caught him and arrested him. Gomez is charged with assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
