Ashley Hayes reportingSeveral Utah roads are about to get a facelift. The major focus of these projects: the bottleneck or choke points.

One of those choke points is a two and a half mile section of 5600 West between 4450 South and 6200 South. The road goes from four lanes down to two, and then back to four. The 5600 West section is one of thirteen "Lane Gain" projects across the state.

Several local leaders and State Representatives turned out for a ground breaking this morning.

UDOT Begins Series of Major Road Improvements

John Njord, Executive Director, UDOT: "This part of the valley has seen some tremendous growth, and we have been watching that very closely as a department. As you look around here, it almost like the Good Lord has spread out a bunch of house seeds."

Ron Bigalow, House Representative: "Those who live in this area are very aware of this particular stretch of road, and its impact as you come down 5600 West, and suddenly, if you are any where near heavy traffic time, you get to stop and admire the houses on either side of the road."

UDOT hopes to have the 5600 West project done by next fall. They say this should alleviated some of the congestion that has been caused by concerts at the USANA Amphitheatre.

The total cost for the 5600 West project is estimated to be 3 million dollars.
