NEW YORK, Jul 29, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Tony-winner Patti LuPone will play Mrs. Lovett in the Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim's macabre musical "Sweeny Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street."
It has been 17 years since the "Evita" best actress winner has appeared in a Broadway musical, Playbill On-Line reported Friday.
Appearing in the title role will be Michael Cerveris who was in Sondheim's "Assassins" as well as The Who's "Tommy."
The John Doyle-directed revival is scheduled to begin previews Oct. 3 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre with opening night a month later.
"Sweeney Todd," the 1979 Tony winner for best musical, tells the tale of a murderous barber and his neighbor, who bakes the evidence into meat pies.
