NEW YORK, Jul 25, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- A production of the smash hit Broadway musical, "Monty Python's Spamalot," is being planned in Las Vegas.
Directed by Mike Nichols and based on the big-screen comedy, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," "Spamalot" won this year's Tony awards for Best Director and Best Musical.
A version of the show is expected to open at Wynn Las Vegas in 2007, upon completion of the custom-built "Spamalot Experience and Grail Theatre," producers said in a statement.
Sold-out since it opened on Broadway on March 17, the musical loosely based on Britain's oft-told King Arthur legend continues to break box office records at The Shubert Theatre in Manhattan.
A national tour of the show is set to begin in Boston next March and will run concurrently with the Broadway and Las Vegas productions.
Bill Haber, who represents the show's Broadway producers, said they are happy to collaborate with "showman extraordinaire Steve Wynn" on the Las Vegas production because Wynn appreciates the show as "timeless entertainment" that will appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds.
