NEW YORK, Jul 21, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- A pregnant woman whose son couldn't wait for their flight to land in New York agreed to temporarily name her son after the airline on which he was born.
Candy Midtlyng, 33, went into labor on a British West Indies Airlines flight from Trinidad to New York early Tuesday. With the help of a midwife who happened to be on board and flight crew, just 15 minutes prior to landing, she delivered a healthy boy with a good set of lungs, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
The flight crew nicknamed the baby Bwee, the abbreviation for the airline's name.
"There was a real sense of joy once there was a cry from the baby," said BWIA spokeswoman Dionne Ligoure. "This really doesn't happen too often."
Mother and child were rushed to Queens hospital, and released in good shape Wednesday.
