SALT LAKE CITY -- A man and his dogs are safe after their home caught on fire Monday night.

Firefighters responded to the house near 1400 West and 200 South around 10 p.m. Monday to find heavy smoke coming from the attic.

The homeowner had made his way outside, but firefighters had to rescue his two dogs from inside the house.

Crews were able to knock the fire down quickly but not before it caused nearly $100,000 in damage.

No word yet on what caused the fire.
