A portrait of Andy Warhol by American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe was sold Wednesday for more than 643,000 dollars at an auction, the auction house Christie's said.
The sale of "Andy Warhol" (1987), a platinum print on linen with four silk panel, was a record for a Mapplethorpe picture.
The portrait, which shows a stone-faced Warhol wearing a rolled up black collar sweater, had been valued at between 200,000 and 300,000 dollars.
The buyer's identity was not released.
