(KSL News) At 5:46 this morning, the United States officially hit the 300-million mark for population.
The milestone comes nearly 39 years after the 200-million mark was reached in 1967.
The U.S. is only the third country in the world to hit this milestone, after China and India.
The Utah Population Estimates Committee reports that for the first time since 2005, Utah's population exceeded 2.5 million.
According to the Census Bureau, Utah's growth is the fifth fastest in the nation.
Much of the growth is attributed to a strong economy with job growth among the highest in the nation, and an unemployment rate among the lowest.
We also have the third highest life expectancy, lowest median age, highest household size, and highest fertility rate.
