MINNEAPOLIS, Jul 10, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Yogurt maker Yoplait says it has created a good tasting chocolate yogurt.
U.S. adults and children like chocolate -- they eat 13 pounds each year -- but chocolate yogurt has never had much success.
"Chocolate has long been used for cooking, in such things as cakes, cookies, even pancakes, but because of its acidity, there hasn't been much success in using it in such things as yogurt," said Matt Pierre, a spokesman for Yoplait.
However, Yoplait has introduced a chocolate yogurt mousse snack called Yoplait Whips that puts chocolate back in yogurt with flavors like, chocolate cherry, chocolate raspberry, and just plain chocolate.
"There have been chocolate yogurts on the market, but they never did well, because consumers didn't like the taste," Pierre said. "This is the first good-tasting chocolate yogurt, and the best part is that each serving has less fat and less calories than a chocolate bar."
