LOS ANGELES, Jul 05, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- The Federal Trade Commission is going after CortiSlim, a pill distributed by a California company that claims it reduces weight by cutting down on stress.
The Los Angeles Times reports the FTC has filed suit against Window Rock Enterprises of Brea and the people behind CortiSlim, including Greg Cynaumon, a former police officer and Christian talk radio host, and Shawn Talbott, a nutritionist who formerly taught at the University of Utah.
The Times said Talbott devised CortiSlim after Cynaumon read a book Talbott wrote linking weight gain to stress and asked him if a pill could reverse the process. The pill was marketed with infomercials and distributed through companies owned by two brothers, Stephen and Thomas Cheng, who had done time for importing bootleg CDs.
The group produced a second pill, CortiStress, with even more dramatic health claims.
The FTC says neither pill does what the distributors say it does.
