(KSL News)--There's a new warning about unwanted e-mail, or SPAM. It doesn't just clog your inbox, it can also steal your identity.

The Federal Trade Commission along with the FBI are warning of a new online scam. Sometimes it starts with an e-mail that directs users to a fake web site, that will persuade consumers to give personal information.

Other times, users receive pop-up ads asking for credit card and social security numbers to update online subscriptions.

The perpetrators use the information to drain bank accounts and to make expensive online purchases.
