BEAVER, Utah (AP) -- Some southern Utah residents are wary of a proposal to develop a former ski area into a private club for the rich and famous.

A public meeting over what to do with the Elk Meadows ski area was held yesterday.

People say there are too many questions that haven't been answered for them to support the plan for the 3-point-5 (b)billion dollar project. The plan is to build 12-hundred trophy homes and condominiums and a top-level golf course at the site of the former ski area, which closed four years ago.

Developer Craig Burton says he wants to reopen the ski area and add the golf course to make it a premiere resort. But property owners say the project could be a disaster to the mountain and the community.

About 200 owners would have to sell their property near the ski area. They could trade their property for other land on the mountain or exchange the value of their property for membership into the Mount Holly Club.

The Beaver County Planning and Zoning Commission will revisit the proposal again during its meeting on October 28th.
