Provo police say a man accused of theft tried to get a hotel clerk to destroy some of the evidence.
A Hampton Inn clerk became suspicious due to the strange behavior of a customer Sunday night. The clerk says the hotel patron asked the clerk to tell people he had checked out, even though he was staying another night. Also, while he was away from the hotel, the man kept calling to make sure no one went into his room.
The clerk says the man also gave him a pizza box and asked him to shred the papers inside. The clerk found receipts from Zions Bank for thousands of dollars and called police.
According to the Daily Herald, officers discovered the suspect, Jacob Busk of Richfield, was wanted for theft in Richfield. Police found a stolen computer in his hotel room. Officers arrested Busk. They say he tried to get out of his handcuffs but was taken to jail.
