YORK, England, Sep 24, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Diane Setterfield was unknown in the literary world until an online campaign helped thrust the British author to the top of several U.S. best-seller lists.
The Sunday Times of London reported that due to a massive Internet campaign by Setterfield's fan base, her new book "The Thirteenth Tale" has topped the best-seller lists of Publishers Weekly, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times -- with nearly 70,000 copies sold in the United States.
The former University of Central Lancashire lecturer has still only sold 700 copies of her book in her native Britain, and was shocked to discover the impact the Internet had upon her overseas sales.
"I suppose it's a new form of word of mouth," the author said.
"The Thirteenth Tale" focuses on a writer who faces shocking revelations about her family after hiring a biographer to tell her life story, the Times reported.
