(KSL News) An idling fire truck proved too much of a temptation for a man in South Salt Lake. Police say firefighters were on a medical call when Daniel Lee Osborne jumped into the truck, buckled the seat belt and put it in gear.
Osborne nearly backed into an ambulance when fire crews chased him out of the truck. He ran down the street and tore off a part of fence to fend off the approaching fire fighters, but they were able to hold him at bay until police arrived.
Police can only guess why he decided to jump in the warm truck. "Someone in a fire truck, whatever the reason, driving down the street erratically, it could have been very dangerous, very hazardous," said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller.
Osborne now faces charges of attempted vehicle theft, assault and criminal mischief.
