BYU's last-second loss to Arizona State was only partially reflected in the lastest college basketball polls, as the coaches kept BYU 26th, while the AP media dropped BYU from 29th to 33rd.
The coaches appear to respect what BYU did in taking a Top 20 team down to the final millisecond, and some might even think BYU got a tough break in Phoenix--hard to tell...
Either way, at 10-1, BYU is likely two more wins (v. Western Oregon, @ Tulsa) away from being in the Top 25 when Wake Forest comes to town on January 3rd. Should BYU sneak into the polls by then and beat the Demon Deacons at home, the stage would be set for a special season.
Time will tell, but the loss to ASU may end up galvanizing this year's team, and we may see the kind of resolve that can only be borne of frustration and/or perceived injustice. I am interested to see what the Cougars do in the next couple of weeks, because I suspect it could be the springboard to a dominant conference run.
