(KSL News) One group believes expanding government health plans could be key when it comes to stimulating the economy.

Families USA says low-income families need the health care safety net now more than ever. And, it says spending money on Medicaid and CHIP has the added benefit of economic stimulus.

Using figures from the most recent Senate proposal to increase Medicaid payments, the groups says Utah would get $175-million in federal aid that could potentially generate nearly $335-million in business and 3,600 jobs. That comes to more than $120-million in wages.

Utah and 13 other states have either reduced or may reduce reimbursement rates paid to Medicaid and CHIP providers.
