FRUIT HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) -- Six pets found new homes in a pre-holiday adoption push by the Davis County Animal Shelter.
The shelter chose Saturday as Adoption Day, hoping to attract people on their day off who were interested in bringing home a new pet for the holidays.
Shelters have been overwhelmed by the number of pets to be taken in this year during the economic slump.
Pet shoppers had more than 50 animals to choose from on Saturday.
One of the animals that was adopted was a pit bull that had been at the shelter since July. Although workers had grown close to the dog, they were thrilled to see somebody give him a new home.
