ITTA BENA, Miss. — TJ Madlock scored 13 points and Alabama State scored the last six points of the game to beat Mississippi Valley State 54-51 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference opener. Arecko Gipson hit a 3-pointer for Mississippi Valley State for a 51-48 lead with 30 seconds left. Alabama State's Eric Coleman then split a pair of free throws, TJ Madlock converted a three-point play and Amarr Knox finished the game with a dunk. The Hornets are now 6-8 with the win and the Delta Devils fell to 0-14.
