SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A federal report says Utah motorists drove 164 million miles less this October than last year.
That's the second largest drop in the country, at 7.4 percent. Only Montana's driving declined more, at 8.4 percent.
The Federal Highway Administration calculated the October miles from 4,000 traffic counters across the nation.
An AAA Utah spokeswoman says the decline in driving is a byproduct of a souring economy when people were trying to save money in any way they could.
