The BYU men's basketball team is off to its best start in 20 years. Next week, the Cougars will take a break from the game to put on their annual Christmas party, but this party isn't for them.
Since 1996, the team has partnered with the Children with Cancer Christmas Foundation to invite children with the disease and their families to celebrate the holiday season and help support each other's struggles.
Bob and Teressa Burnham lost their 7-year-old son, Darin, to cancer just 5 days after Christmas last year.
"It's just a big family group. They know what you're going through," Teressa said.
"We all kind of lean on each other. It's a neat place, we all can relate to each other," Bob added.
This couple and their two daughters will need more support than ever this year. The Burnhams' youngest child, their second son, 3-year-old Jayden, passed away in a tragic accident this past August in their Heber City home.
"We're told the Lord doesn't give us more than we can handle, and I just hope I can handle what's to come and go forth," Teressa said.
The Christmas party with the BYU basketball team is next Wednesday. If you would like to donate to the foundation, please call the BYU basketball office at (801) 422-3612.
