SOUTH JORDAN — Power has been restored to just over 5,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers in West Jordan and South Jordan.

An outage knocked out power to the area for several hours before being restored around noon. A separate outage impacting 2,400 customers in Orem has not yet been resolved, but power is expected to be restored by 1:30 p.m.

Jona Whitesides, a spokesperson for the power company, told KSL earlier in the day that the South Jordan and West Jordan outage appeared to be caused by a transformer lockout.

"Basically, it's almost like a breaker trip. So when you think about your home, sometimes you'll have one of your breakers that will just trip as a safety mechanism," Whitesides said. "As far as the cause, we don't know. Crews are on route to see what that is."

The West Jordan and South Jordan outage was first reported around 9:42 a.m. Saturday. The Orem outage was caused by a broken pole and was first reported around 7:21 a.m.

Whitesides encouraged customers to contact Rocky Mountain Power if they are without power after they've checked their main breaker.

"Our systems go out to our pad and distribution transformers. Those are the green boxes you see in neighborhoods, and the pole transformers are the cylinder ones that you see on the poles," he said. "From there when it goes to the neighborhoods, sometimes we can't really see individual homes and so it's always just a good reminder that anytime somebody's out of power at their house to give us a call, because sometimes we only pinpoint out to that last distribution node. So, it's just helpful. It helps us better pinpoint where the outages are."
