SALT LAKE CITY — A construction worker sustained serious burns when a trailer he was working near caught fire on a job site in the Avenues neighborhood in Salt Lake City on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened about 4:40 p.m. at 669 E. 18th Avenue. A man in his 20s was working near the trailer when the fire broke out, burning the man on 20-30% of his body, according to Dan Walker, division chief with the Salt Lake City Fire Department.

An investigation of the incident found that it was an "accidental flash fire" that happened while refueling equipment, the Salt Lake City Fire Department tweeted at 9:32 p.m. Monday.

The man, whom Walker said was the only one injured, was taken to University Hospital's burn center to be treated.

Four crews including Salt Lake City fire and other medical teams were able to put the fire out in approximately 10 minutes, and investigators stayed on scene or several more hours, Walker said.
