ROOSEVELT — A Roosevelt couple was charged Monday with illegally transporting guns and drugs in a stolen trailer from Las Vegas to Utah.

Jason Bret Ford, 41, is charged in 8th District Court with seven counts of transaction of a firearm by a restricted person, drug distribution and theft, second-degree felonies; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor. Jamie Ilene Ford, 39, is charged with seven counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony; drug distribution and theft, second-degree felonies; DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanors.

On May 4, members of the Uintah Basin Narcotics Strike Force in conjunction with federal agents and other local police agencies received a tip that Jason Ford was transporting guns and drugs from Las Vegas to the Roosevelt area, according to a police booking affidavit. Investigators kept surveillance on Ford and tracked him as he drove on U.S. 191 into Duchesne.

An agent spotted Ford's truck hauling a trailer shortly after entering Duchesne and pulled the vehicle over for not having a license plate or working tail lights on the trailer, the affidavit says.

After the truck was stopped, Adult Probation and Parole agents took Ford into custody as others talked to the driver, Jamie Ford.

"During our conversation she was fidgety and had involuntary muscle movements and difficulty with her primary motor skills, indicating to me the influence of illicit drugs, primarily methamphetamine," the arresting officer wrote. "She admitted that they had three pounds of methamphetamine in the truck, behind the back seat. She also advised that there were guns in the vehicle as well."

The trailer was listed stolen out of Las Vegas, the affidavit states. A search warrant was obtained and officers reported finding meth in the vehicle as well as "large sums of money" and drug paraphernalia.

"Inside the cab in the back seat area we also located in cases two hunting-style rifles and a shotgun; in a bag we located two semi-auto pistols with one having a silencer on it," according to the affidavit. "Located in a tote in the bed of the truck was a sawed-off, side-by-side shotgun and a pistol gripped semi-auto rifle and more ammunition."

Loaded magazines were also seized, according to police. Both Fords were booked into the Duchesne County Jail.
