1. Man shot, killed by police after armed carjacking in Salt Lake City

A man was shot and killed by police in Salt Lake City on Saturday after an armed carjacking, police said. "Tonight, two of our officers found themselves facing great danger as they protected our community. I am grateful for their heroic actions," Salt Lake Police Chief Mike Brown said in a statement Saturday night.

2. Woman dies after falling from cliff near Richfield

Candice Thompson, from Richfield, was hiking with her husband in the Bulls Head area when she fell around 75 to 100 feet around 1 p.m., according to the Sevier County Sheriff's Office. Thompson died from her injuries at the hospital.

3. Orem man strangled girlfriend to death then called 911, police say

An Orem man strangled his girlfriend to death Saturday, took several shots of alcohol and then called 911 to confess, police say.

4. 1 dead after motorcycle accident near Spanish Fork festival

One person is dead after a motorcycle crash near the Festival of Colors in Spanish Fork on Sunday afternoon.

5. 2 men suffer minor injuries in small plane crash in Spanish Fork

Two men in their 20s were transported to a hospital with minor injuries after a small airplane crashed at the Spanish Fork Airport on Saturday. The small single-engine plane was caught in a crosswind when landing, causing it to leave the runway, Spanish Fork police Lt. Cory Slaymaker said.

3. Southern Utah beats Portland to advance to Basketball Classic semifinals

John Knight III had 20 points as Southern Utah defeated Portland 77-66 to advance to The Basketball Classic semifinals Saturday.

4. Real Salt Lake's unbeaten start to season ended by Sporting Kansas City

Johnny Russell scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute, and Sporting Kansas City handed RSL its first loss of the season with a 1-0 win Saturday at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.

5. 'It was euphoria': Why UHSAA sanctioned boys volleyball as 5th new sport since 2016

Boys volleyball will become the 10th championship to be played in the spring when it begins play in the 2023-24 academic year. Championships will be contested in the spring.
