SALT LAKE CITY — Utah health officials reported 37 COVID-19 deaths on Thursday, along with 152 new cases.

Thirty-three of those deaths occurred prior to Feb. 24 and were discovered because of the recent drop in case numbers that has allowed epidemiologists to look at older death certificates.

The rolling, seven-day average for positive tests is now 124 per day, showing a continued decrease. The seven-day average for people testing positive for COVID-19 is currently 4.7% and has been holding steady for a few days, following a decrease from a high of 46.7% on Jan. 27.

The health department reported another 3,242 people who have been tested for COVID-19 and 2,138 vaccines that were given.

Currently, 74.8% of Utahns who are over age 5 and eligible to be vaccinated have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 66.4% are considered fully vaccinated. Of those who are over 12 and are eligible for a booster shot, 33.7% have received a booster shot.

School children account for 25 of the new cases. Of those cases, four were children between ages 5 and 10, seven were ages 11-13, and 14 were ages 14-17.

Currently, 109 people are hospitalized throughout the state with COVID-19, with 20 of those patients in intensive care, according to the health department.

In addition to reporting 37 deaths in Thursday's report, the Utah Department of Health retracted one death after further examination, putting the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Utah at 4,681.
