RIVERDALE, Weber County — A driver was killed Friday afternoon when road debris pierced the windshield of a vehicle traveling on I-15 in Weber County, the Utah Highway Patrol said.

The vehicle was northbound on the freeway near Riverdale just after 3 p.m. when road debris from the southbound side of the freeway crossed the median, crashing through the windshield and fatally injuring the driver, according to a UHP news release.

The northbound left lane on I-15 near Riverdale is closed while troopers investigate the crash. The Utah Department of Transportation tweeted an estimated clearance time around 7:30 p.m.

The name of the driver has not been released.
