SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Avalanche Center issued a "special avalanche bulletin" for Saturday out of concern areas in north and central Utah could see avalanche accidents or fatalities because of current conditions.
"Dangerous avalanche conditions combined with great powder and beautiful weather make accidents likely," the center said in a statement.
The center said it had seen multiple close calls with avalanches this week. "We commonly see a string of close calls leading up to serious accidents."
Those headed to the mountains are encouraged to learn proper avalanche safety measures like how to use an avalanche beacon, probe and shovel, and to avoid steep slopes and avalanche terrain.
