OREM — Two Utah Highway Patrol troopers received minor injuries Wednesday when a pickup truck hauling a trailer lost control on I-15 and slid into the back of the troopers' patrol car.
The accident happened just before noon. Two troopers were helping the driver of another vehicle whose car had spun out into a barrier wall on I-15 near 800 North in Orem and was facing the wrong direction of traffic. The troopers were parked on the right shoulder of the freeway when a pickup truck "lost control and slid into the back of the troopers' car," according to the UHP.
It was snowing and I-15 was icy at the time of the incident, the UHP said.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the first crash was sitting in the backseat of the UHP vehicle at the time but was not injured, according to the UHP. As a precaution, both troopers were taken to a local hospital to be checked.
The UHP stated that the patrol car sustained heavy rear damage and was towed from the scene.
Orem police are investigating the crash. It was not immediately known Wednesday if the driver who hit the patrol car was cited.
