TAYLORSVILLE — Shoppers were evacuated from a Macey's grocery store in Taylorsville on Wednesday after the roof of the building caught fire.
Crews from Unified Fire Authority were called to the building at 1825 W. 4700 South at about 4 p.m. The fire was contained to the roof, according to a tweet from the agency, and required the help of five fire departments to extinguish.
After over an hour, crews were able to get the fire under control. However, due to the extensive overhaul needed, Unified fire officials said fire crews would remain on scene for at least a couple of hours. They're also asking people to avoid the area.
Officials reported there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Macey's released a statement Wednesday night emphasizing the store's commitment to safety.
"As always, the safety of our team members and guests is our top priority and focus," the statement reads. "All guests and team members at our Taylorsville location are safe. Our team followed existing protocols and help was notified immediately. We are working closely with the fire department as they investigate the cause of the fire. We are so grateful for the rapid response of local fire departments, the quick actions of our store leader and team and the cooperation of our guests."
