SUNSET — A popular Davis County restaurant burned in a fire late Sunday, causing an estimated $2 million in damage, firefighters said.

About 11:30 p.m., crews were called to the blaze at Circle Inn Pizzeria, 2253 N. Main in Sunset. Fire engines arrived quickly, and crews saw the building already had heavy flames coming from it, said North Davis Fire District Chief Mark Becraft.

Firefighters from North Davis and numerous surrounding agencies worked to extinguish the blaze and protect an adjacent furniture store.

The restaurant had closed an hour and a half before the fire was reported, he said.

Firefighters battled to extinguish the fire throughout most of a "long, grueling night" Monday, Becraft said, as they dealt with cold temperatures that caused the water to freeze.

Drivers stopping on nearby I-15 to view the fire also caused safety issues, the chief said.

No one was injured. The furniture store was saved, but the restaurant was destroyed in the fire.

Becraft noted that the pizzeria was "very" popular and it will be a loss for the community.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday. Becraft said it was an older building.

Crews were also working to clean up the scene, as the building creates a hazard and could collapse, according to the chief. It will require some demolition.
