DELTA — A 10-year-old boy has died after falling through the ice into Gunnison Bend Reservoir.

The incident happened on Monday, according to a statement from the Millard County Sheriff's Office.

According to the sheriff's office, the boy was recreating with other family members when he fell through the ice. Another family member jumped in the water after the boy and pulled him out. The sheriff's office did not know Tuesday how long the boy was in the water but believed it was not for a prolonged amount of time.

First aid was given on scene to the boy who was flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital, where he later passed away from his injuries.

"Our condolences go out to the family during this extremely difficult time of loss," the sheriff's office stated.
