SALT LAKE CITY — Nine people detained in a home by the Salt Lake City SWAT team, after a 37-year-old man was stabbed multiple times, have been released, according to a statement by the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Officers responded to a 911 call at 5:17 a.m. reporting a man with multiple stab wounds near 400 South and 900 East.
The man was located by officers who began performing immediate first aid. Paramedics arrived to the scene and transported the man for surgery in serious but stable condition, according to the statement.
During the investigation, officers learned the stabbing happened at a home in the 700 block of East Ashton Avenue. Officers responded to the residence to look for additional victims, suspects and to collect evidence, police said. Multiple people were inside the home when officers arrived and some refused to come out or cooperate with police, according to the statement.
SLCPD SWAT team, crisis negotiators and social workers responded to assist with the investigation "out of an abundance of caution," police said. Neighbors in the immediate area were asked to shelter in place.
After multiple commands from a loudspeaker to exit the home, law enforcement officials detained nine people inside the residence at about 10:45 a.m., police said. All nine people were released by police as of 2:15 p.m. and no arrests were made at that time.
Police will continue to investigate and determine whether charges will later be filed, according to the statement.
The identity of the injured man was not released.
