GRANTSVILLE — A man died and his wife and eight children were injured when their vehicle hit a semitruck and rolled into the median while traveling east on I-80 Tuesday evening, Utah Highway Patrol officials said.

The man was driving an SUV pulling a 29-foot bumper pull travel trailer. About 8:11 p.m., the trailer began to fishtail and sideswiped the trailer of an eastbound semitruck before rolling into the median, according to the UHP. The driver died at the scene. His wife and eight children received various injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening. They were taken to Salt Lake area hospitals for evaluation.

The left lane of eastbound I-80 was closed one mile east of Skull Valley Road, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

Utah Highway Patrol Col. Michael Rapich said the crash was among several significant accidents investigated by troopers in the previous 72 hours and the second resulting in a death. Rapich advised drivers to wear their seat belts, drive alert and watch their speed.

The deceased was identified as Louis E. Burhwhat, 48, of Red Bluff, California.
