SANDY — Northbound I-15 has reopened in Sandy following a fatal motorcycle accident Wednesday morning.
A motorcycle with two people on board began to fishtail near 9000 South and crashed about 3:30 a.m., according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Wade Breur. An approaching semitruck driver saw the driver of the motorcycle in the road and avoided him but did not see the female passenger and hit her.
The woman died from her injuries. Her name has not yet been released.
The motorcycle driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, Breur said.

All northbound lanes of I-15 were closed at 9000 South. The on- and off-ramps for 9000 South were also closed. All lanes reopened shortly before 8 a.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation. Drivers in the area should expect residual delays as traffic gets back to normal.
