(KSL News) For the first time Salt Lake firefighters can remember, they responded to a fire at a downtown grain processor.
There was a small explosion inside a grain silo near 500 South 400 West. They're not sure what caused it, but think it might have been an electrical problem.
Batt. Chief Reinhard Kauffmann, Salt Lake City Fire Dept.: "Anytime you have grain dust there's always a possibility of an explosion if there is an ignition source. That's always a worry, but this particular establishment has never had a problem."
In fact, the battalion chief says in 30 years he's never been called to the Cereal Food Processors.
An internal sprinkling system put the fire out before crews arrived. The battalion chief says more damage was done by the water than the explosion.
